Emma Prempeh in Kettle's Yard, University of Cambridge Exhibition- Handpicked: Painting Flowers from 1900 to Today

Emma Prempeh’s Study of Marigolds (Uganda), 2024 is part of the group exhibition Handpicked: Painting Flowers from 1900 to Today curated by Kettle’s Yard Director Andrew Nairne at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, celebrating the vitality and resonance of flower paintings over the past 125 years.

Inspired by the presence of freshly cut flower displays and paintings such as Cyclamen and Primula (c. 1923) by Winifred Nicholson in the Kettle’s Yard house, the exhibition reveals the ways in which paintings of flowers can suggest personal and symbolic meaning and reflect sociohistorical changes, as well as being both stylistically innovative and compelling.

The exhibition opens on 25 April and it is on view through 6 September 2026.
