In The Wake of Our Daughter’s Becoming explores archetypes underlying transformation. A mermaid-like figure emerges from the water ritual, accompanied by a vulture (dying for rebirth) and a royal python (ego, death/rebirth). Barnacles signify receptivity. Goats represent offerings in Igbo tradition, inspired by divination advice from Professor Umir. It’s about engaging with spiritual heritage respectfully, combining imagination, symbolism, and mythology with lived experience.
Several pivotal events shaped the journey: my experiences with parenthood, my sister’s passing, my father’s funeral, the pandemic, and vocational shifts. Artistic practice asserted itself repeatedly, requiring conscious alignment with my inner calling.
