In The Wake of Our Daughter’s Becoming, explores the transformative life cycle of descent, death, and rebirth.
through the presence of mythological/archetypal figures.

A mermaid-like figure-recognised as having the ability to navigate the depths, accompanied by a vulture- acknowledged for its acute awareness of death (dying for rebirth) and a royal python (death/rebirth life cycle).

The barnacles signify the space is one of receptivity and goats are often used in offertory rituals in the Igbo tradition. The presence of the goat was inspired by divination advice from Professor John Anenechukwu Umeh.

The heroine’s body is offered in its entirety as a vessel, the body of the initiate is united with the elemental properties of the earth and water- a transformation has taken place-signalling the attainment of a new level of being.
