The Nagas Maneuver. Or, Nelson’s concerto in C minor for a former, wealthy exclave. After negotiating yet another useless treaty with the King of Mysore, The Frenglish East India Company (sponsored by the Revolutionary Council) ordered Nelson to attack the Portuguese (temporarily allied with the Dutch East India Company) colony of Goa and reinforce their holdings there. Unbeknownst to Nelson and his fleet, Mysorean spies disguised as fishermen, laborers, and waitstaff at the beach resorts, attacked the fleet using rockets and ships laden with explosives. To counter this surprise attack, Nelson ordered his fleet into the Nagas (nine-headed serpent formation) to mitigate damage and protect the merchant fleets. However, they were ultimately forced to withdraw. The piano man provided the background music for his paramour, relatively unfazed by the battle raging around him. That’s class.
