In reference a bit to Richland Park. This piece depicts the land where my mother used to live with her grandmother and great-grandmother. When we visited Emil’s brothers, the first one we met was genuinely surprised to see my mother. He was very happy but hesitated when she started asking about the land - where it was and how to find it. I could tell he was struggling to answer, and after some back and forth, he finally mentioned that a stream had taken over most of the land, and someone had been allowed to live there. He seemed a bit uneasy, as if he wasn’t sure how to explain that he'd given the land away. But my mother wasn’t there to reclaim anything - she just wanted to show me the place.

When we arrived, there was a building on the land, and the stream was still there, though much smaller than he had described. I’m not sure why he said the stream had taken over the land because everything looked the same.

I’ve added four sets of eyes hidden in the bushes, representing my mother, my uncle, and their grandmother and great-grandmother, all watching from the past. The eyes almost look human, but I’m still deciding whether to keep them as they are or make them resemble animals, adding a bit of mystery.
